How myAloe uses saldiaShop to gain Google visibility and attract new customers
The idea and the decision
We'd thought about setting up our own online shop more than once. But at first, our doubts held us back. Is an online shop really worth it for a small business like ours? Isn't a web shop too much work — and won't it just make life unnecessarily complicated? Isn't it way too expensive? We were hesitant at first, yet we were clear on one thing: an online shop is exactly the right solution for us — even though a study by Lease Web showed that nearly 80 percent of new webshops fail, and feedback from our circle was hardly encouraging: "An online shop will cost more than you think, and it's more work than you'd imagine."
Implementation
From curating products and setting prices to writing product descriptions, creating genuine added value for our customers has been at the heart of everything. Product descriptions are designed to give customers all the information they need — in an engaging, multimedia format that's still clear and concise. Using saldia's built-in SEO tool, we've optimized our online shop for search engines like Google, helping customers find us more easily and improving our Google rankings.
We want to offer something unique — something you can't find elsewhere. That comes down to product quality, the right combination of brand building, shop experience, pricing, availability, and search engine optimization.
Setting up an online shop does take extra effort upfront. The setup and configuration take time. Beyond the administrative information for customers, you need to set up payment modules, logistics, Google and/or email marketing, a sensible product hierarchy, and more — all of which required significant personal investment.
First results
We managed to keep the momentum from the launch going over the following months. Our saldia online shop is generating solid revenue, and we've gained loyal new customers.
By now we're well familiar with how the shop works and have established reliable routines. We add new products ourselves without any difficulty. And whenever we get stuck, we know we can count on saldia as a reliable point of contact.
Looking ahead
We're creating our own loyalty programs and promotions to retain existing customers and attract new ones. We write a blog with interesting posts and connect the webshop to our social media presence (a built-in saldia feature) — all to improve our SEO score and further boost our Google visibility.
We chose saldia as our software solution because it handles complex requirements like individual customer pricing & discounts, tiered pricing, variants, multimedia product descriptions, straightforward payment modules, and valuable logistics integrations — just to name a few features — while still being surprisingly easy to use. It's important to us that we can run the online shop independently, without always needing external help. Other factors include the import interfaces and the scalability of the saldia webshop solution, as well as its connectivity to specialized partners like warehouse management systems. Bottom line: a quality online shop isn't cheap, there's no question about that. The costs were our biggest concern at the start. But it's becoming clear that the investment in the shop and Google advertising pays for itself within 6 months, and ongoing costs can be covered by new customer revenue. The way we see it: we've massively expanded our product range and our "shop floor" digitally — without any physical expansion. And the cost of setting up an online shop is relatively modest compared to a real brick-and-mortar extension.
